The wall build-up

Exterior layers
Exterior insulation wood fibre board helps achieve the Passive House Standard. It can be plastered or clad with a ventilated facade. An airtight diffusion-open membrane prevents heat loss and ensures humidity transfer. It also serves as a weather-protection during construction.

The panel
The timber-straw wall panel is made with multidirectional press technology, and is a double load-bearing structure made of FSC certified wood. The panels are made in 1 mm increments to adapt to any kind of building design. Panel types include braced panels, lintels, sills, and inclined gable wall elements. Standard thickness is 40 cm.

Interior layers
The system is completed with interior clay plaster. Thanks to its hygroscopic properties, it acts as an effective humidity regulation system. It has a completely natural finish without any VOCs, and with low embodied energy and a high thermal mass. A variety of standard interior finishes is also available.

Straw harvest »
The story of every EcoCocon panel starts at the field. Every summer, we harvest the straw at nearby farms to prepare for the next year’s production.

» Panel manufaturing »
The panels are prefabricated under strictly controlled manufacturing conditions. Each panel is made to measure for the project at hand.

» Construction phase »
Once the foundations are ready, the panels get delivered directly to the construction site. Then they can be assembled in a matter of days using only basic carpentry tools.

Why choose straw?
Nanotechology patented by nature.
Thanks to its unique cellular structure, straw has an excellent U-value and a high thermic capacity providing thermic comfort all-year-round.
Natural carbon sink.
Through photosynthesis, straw absorbs great amounts of CO2 over its growth period. Just 1 m2 of our wall panels sequesters as much as 97.6 kg of CO2.
Great fire rating.
Straw has a high content of silica - a natural fire retardant. When burning, it creates a charcoal layer on the surface that protects it from further combustion.
Safeguarding forests.
Replacing unnecessary wood usage, straw construction protects forests and natural habitats from over-exploitation.
